Evidence and Gap Maps

Providing unprecedented national poverty insights and highlighting missing data.

By systemically searching academic databases and online research, our Evidence and Gap Maps (EGMs) show exactly what is known about poverty in a country – and what we still don’t know. The maps categorise evidence according to cross-cutting themes like social protection and the environment and by key population demographics, to make them accessible to different user’s needs.

EGMs make it easier for decision makers, academics and citizens to understand how poverty is affecting people now, and to prioritise for the future.

The first EGM we created – for Tanzania – is now being used to support policy development and guide future research. Our aim is to produce EGMs for all of DEEP’s focus countries, and ultimately to build a global database of poverty research and gaps.

EGMs can help to:

Prioritise and target poverty reduction measures across a country
Identify future poverty research priorities
Analyse all available evidence from a centralised database
