Poverty amidst mutiple crises: a comparison
Poverty is shaped not just by isolated crises, but also by the interaction of multiple shocks that compound over time. In this infographic, we explore how climate related disasters, conflict, economic instability and political crises influence poverty dynamics across Nigeria, Bangladesh, Tanzania and Madagascar.
While the nature and intensity of these crises differ across countries, the evidence highlights common patterns in how intersecting shocks deepen vulnerability and make escaping poverty increasingly difficult.
Firstly, we seek to understand how different crises interact to shape poverty trajectories. And then we identify the policy priorities that address these intersecting risks, ensuring that poverty reduction efforts respond to the realities households face rather than to individual shocks in isolation.
