Poverty dynamics amidst intersecting crises: consistent evidence
In this graphic we look at the consistent evidence emerging from four of our focus countries regarding how multiple crises and poverty interact and effect the other. In our previous graphic we examined the differences in who is effected by poverty amidst crises, what are the unique coping mechanisms and other patterns that may be specific to one country. In this one, we look at what is common.
From Bangladesh’s flood-conflict nexus to Tanzania’s drought-economic shocks, Nigeria’s conflict-climate interactions, and Madagascar’s drought-economic crises, the evidence is clear.
The greatest poverty risks emerged not from individual crises, but from overlapping shocks that compounded vulnerability, eroded resilience, and undermined pathways out of poverty.
