What does nutrition-sensitive social assistance tell us about financing and programming for long-term resilience against shocks? Reflections on experimental evidence from Bangladesh

Date: 22nd November, 2024
Resource Type: Policy brief

This paper reflects on the findings of a study about the impact of the Transfer Modality Research Initiative (2012–2014) on the food security and resilience of poor households in northwest Bangladesh before, during and after the COVID-19 pandemic – a major shock that occurred some six years after the programme had ended.

It builds on previous work by the researchers who have had ongoing access to the same communities involved in the TMRI programme. The programme was a safety net protection pilot partnership between the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and the World Food Programme (WFP), implemented as a randomised control trial in two rural areas of Bangladesh – the northwest region and the coastal southern region.
